Dear [Manager name], Please accept this letter as formal notice that I am resigning from my position as [Your role] at [Company]. My last day will be [Last day]. In the two weeks between now and my last day I will do everything I can to wrap up open work and hand off responsibilities to whomever you designate. Thank you for the opportunities and support during my time at [Company]. Sincerely, [Your name]
How to use it
Keep it short. Three sentences is enough. Anything more can be said in person if you want to say it.
Send it to your direct manager first, then to HR. Don't post the news anywhere until you've told your manager face-to-face or on a video call.
You are under no obligation to explain why you are leaving. "I've decided to move on to my next chapter" is a complete sentence.
FAQ
In most U.S. jobs, no — most employment is at-will. Two weeks is a professional norm, not a legal requirement.
